Function and Measurement System
Sophisticated Measuring Principle
The MGS series of guided wave radar level meters are cutting-edge "top-down" measuring instruments utilizing the Time of Flight (ToF) principle. These advanced devices emit high-frequency pulse signals that journey along the probe. Upon reaching the material surface, the signals reflect back. The returning signals are precisely captured by the instrument. Through our exclusive equivalent sampling technology, the time difference between pulse emission and reception is meticulously transformed into the distance from the instrument's reference point to the material surface, thereby determining the level with unparalleled accuracy. This revolutionary measurement method is known in the industry as TDR, or Time Domain Reflectometry.

Signal Import
The echo pulse signal elegantly travels from the probe to the instrument's electronic unit, where the microprocessor performs a detailed analysis of the received signal to expertly identify the true level echo. This identification is seamlessly accomplished by our intelligent software. The measurement distance D is directly proportional to the pulse's travel time t: D = c * t / 2, where c represents the speed of light. Given the known height of the empty tank E, the precise level L can be calculated as L = E - D. Refer to the right-hand figure for the empty tank height reference point.


Signal Output
To ensure optimal performance, set the empty tank height (zero point), full tank height (full scale), and application parameters according to the field conditions. This allows the instrument to automatically adapt to the current measurement task. The output, calibrated according to the user's range setting, is 4~20mA, with communication facilitated via the reliable HART protocol.

· Usually, cable probes are used to measure solid particles, and rod probes are only suitable for measuring light solid particles with good fluidity in small ranges (about 4m);
· Rod or coaxial rod probes are usually used to measure small range of liquids. Cable probes are used to measure liquids with a range greater than 4m or in situations where rigid probes cannot be installed on the top space;
· The coaxial rod probe can measure the viscosity of liquids up to 500cst, the coaxial rod probe can measure liquefied gas, the nozzle and the internal structure of the material tank have no effect on the measurement;
· When used for measuring the material level of large bins, the cable probe should be equipped with a plastic sheath to maintain the seal and prevent the cable from breaking due to side pressure;
· Corrosive media should be selected for corrosion protection;
· When the measured medium is a very loose material, it can be classified as a class with low dielectric constant;
· The maximum range of the instrument will be reduced due to the influence of working conditions, such as: very loose surface material, adhesion caused by wet medium.

· MPS3300 Horn antenna pulse radar: Engineered with precision, this device excels in measuring strong corrosive and complex liquid or slurry conditions within storage or process containers. Its adaptable design makes it ideal for diverse applications, including water liquid storage tanks, acid and alkali storage, and slurry storage tanks.1) To ensure optimal performance for class A medium, select the waveguide with a 20m range.

· The MPS3700 series pulse radar: A versatile solution for measuring solid levels in large-range process containers. Its customizable antenna opening caters to various needs, making it perfect for applications such as coke levels, slurry storage tanks, and solid particle measurement.



Measuring condition
• Measurement range: Begins precisely where the radar beam touches the tank bottom. For disc-bottom tanks or those with conical discharge ports, the level beneath the initial contact can't be measured, ensuring accuracy and reliability.
• Low dielectric constant media: For Class A and B media at low levels (reference figure C), the tank bottom becomes visible, potentially compromising measurement accuracy. It's advised to set the zero measurement point at position C, away from the tank's base, as depicted in the figure.
• Theoretical range: Capable of reaching the antenna's end, yet consider factors like corrosion and adhesion. Ensure a minimal distance A between the measurement range's end and the antenna top, especially where condensation is likely.
Minimum measurement range: Dependent on the selected antenna type, consult the table below for specifics.
The tank dimensions: Should exceed diameter D and height H, as detailed in the accompanying table.

· Influence of gas phase
When steam affects the liquid surface, high pressure may decelerate signal transmission, significantly under lower temperatures. As the distance between the zero measurement point (flange) and the material surface increases, so does the resulting measurement error. Detailed errors are shown in the table below.
