Function and Measurement System
Measuring Principle
The MGS series, a cutting-edge suite of guided wave radar level meters, operate with an advanced "top-down" precision, leveraging the sophisticated Time of Flight principle. High-frequency pulse signals are emitted and travel along the probe. Upon meeting the material surface, they reflect back. These returning signals are received by the instrument, enabling accurate level calculation through unique equivalent sampling technology. This method, known as Time Domain Reflectometry (TDR), smartly converts the time lapse between signal emission and reception into a precise distance measurement from the instrument's reference point to the material surface.

Import
The echo pulse signal journeying from the probe is expertly processed by the instrument's electronic unit. A sophisticated microprocessor skillfully analyzes these signals to pinpoint the authentic level echo. Intelligent software ensures this correct signal identification. The measurement distance D is calculated with the travel time t of the pulse as D=c * t / 2, where c is the speed of light. With a known empty tank height E, the level L shines through as L =E-D. The reference point for the empty tank height E is beautifully illustrated in the accompanying figure.


Output
Tailored to field conditions, parameters like the zero point for empty tanks and full-scale height for full tanks are configured, enabling the instrument to effortlessly adapt to the application. The 4~20mA output, set according to user-defined range settings, allows seamless communication via HART protocol, ensuring a smooth operation.

· Usually, cable probes are used to measure solid particles, and rod probes are only suitable for measuring light solid particles with good fluidity in small ranges (about 4m);
· Rod or coaxial rod probes are usually used to measure small range of liquids. Cable probes are used to measure liquids with a range greater than 4m or in situations where rigid probes cannot be installed on the top space;
· The coaxial rod probe can measure the viscosity of liquids up to 500cst, the coaxial rod probe can measure liquefied gas, the nozzle and the internal structure of the material tank have no effect on the measurement;
· When used for measuring the material level of large bins, the cable probe should be equipped with a plastic sheath to maintain the seal and prevent the cable from breaking due to side pressure;
· Corrosive media should be selected for corrosion protection;
· When the measured medium is a very loose material, it can be classified as a class with low dielectric constant;
· The maximum range of the instrument will be reduced due to the influence of working conditions, such as: very loose surface material, adhesion caused by wet medium.

Perfect for environments with strong corrosives or complex settings, it adeptly handles a variety of media in storage and process containers. Ideal for applications like water liquid storage tanks, acid and alkali storage, and slurry tanks, it offers unparalleled precision tailored to the specific horn aperture you choose.1) For Class A media, the recommendation is to select the waveguide option, supporting measurement up to 20 meters, ensuring accuracy in demanding conditions.

· The MPS3700 Series Pulse Radar is the go-to solution for solid level measurement in expansive process containers. Its adaptable antenna opening accommodates a wide range of applications such as coke level monitoring, slurry tank assessments, and solid particle management, delivering reliable and precise measurements.



Measuring Condition
• Measurement Range Protocol: Begins precisely where the radar beam makes contact with the tank's bottom. Note: In tanks with disc-bottoms or conical discharge ports, the level below this contact point is not measurable.
• For media with a low dielectric constant, such as Class A and B, if the medium is at a low level (refer to figure C), the tank's bottom is visible, affecting accuracy. To counteract this, set the measurement zero at a position distanced from the bottom, enhancing precision.
• Theoretical Measurement Range: Extends to the instrument antenna's end. However, to account for corrosion and adhesion effects, maintain a requisite gap of at least A from the top of the antenna to the measurement range's end, especially under condensation conditions.
Minimum Measurement Range B is influenced by the antenna type selected (refer to the subsequent table for details).
Tank Dimensions: Ensure the tank diameter exceeds D and the height reaches at least H, as specified in the accompanying table, to guarantee optimal measurement conditions.

Influence of Gas Phase
When steam overlays the liquid surface, high pressure can decelerate signal transmission. This impact varies with steam type and is significant in low temperatures. As the distance from the measurement zero (flange) to the material surface increases, so does the measurement error. Refer to the table for detailed error metrics.
