Function and Measurement System
Measuring Principle
The MGS series of guided wave radar level meters are state-of-the-art "top-down" measuring instruments grounded in the cutting-edge Time of Flight principle. These devices emit high-frequency pulse signals that elegantly traverse along the probe until they encounter the material's surface. Upon contact, these signals reflect back, journeying along the probe to be captured by the instrument. Through an innovative technique known as unique equivalent sampling, the time lapse between signal emission and reception is meticulously converted into the precise distance from the instrument's reference point to the material surface, effectively determining the level. This sophisticated measurement process is referred to as TDR Time Domain Reflectometry, a testament to precision and modern technology.

Import
The echo pulse signal gracefully travels from the probe to the instrument's electronic unit, where a sophisticated microprocessor keenly analyzes the incoming signals to discern the authentic level echo signal. With the aid of intelligent software, the echo signal is accurately identified, ensuring precision. The measurement distance (D) is directly calculated based on the travel time (t) of the pulse, using the formula D=c * t / 2, where 'c' represents the speed of light. Armed with the known height of an empty tank (E), the level (L) is effortlessly deduced as L = E - D, as illustrated by the reference point for the empty tank height (E) in the accompanying figure.


Output
Tailored to the unique field conditions, the instrument is meticulously configured with the zero point for an empty tank, the full scale for a full tank, and the relevant application parameters, enabling it to seamlessly adapt to the specific measurement application. Based on the user's range setting, a corresponding output of 4~20mA is established. Additionally, communication is facilitated through the robust HART protocol, ensuring seamless integration and control.

· Usually, cable probes are used to measure solid particles, and rod probes are only suitable for measuring light solid particles with good fluidity in small ranges (about 4m);
· Rod or coaxial rod probes are usually used to measure small range of liquids. Cable probes are used to measure liquids with a range greater than 4m or in situations where rigid probes cannot be installed on the top space;
· The coaxial rod probe can measure the viscosity of liquids up to 500cst, the coaxial rod probe can measure liquefied gas, the nozzle and the internal structure of the material tank have no effect on the measurement;
· When used for measuring the material level of large bins, the cable probe should be equipped with a plastic sheath to maintain the seal and prevent the cable from breaking due to side pressure;
· Corrosive media should be selected for corrosion protection;
· When the measured medium is a very loose material, it can be classified as a class with low dielectric constant;
· The maximum range of the instrument will be reduced due to the influence of working conditions, such as: very loose surface material, adhesion caused by wet medium.
