MPS5X00 series radar level meters are W-band (80GHz) frequency-modulated continuous wave radar level instruments, suitable for continuous level measurement of various liquid and solid media, with a maximum range of 120m.
The MPS5X00 series radar level meters are advanced measurement systems based on frequency-modulated continuous wave technology. The radar level meter emits continuous microwave signals through an antenna sensor, with the frequency of these signals linearly modulated by a sawtooth wave. When the continuously emitted microwave signal encounters the surface of the measured medium, due to a sudden change in dielectric constant, part of the energy of the microwave signal is reflected back continuously and received by the lens antenna system.
There is always a difference between the frequency of the received signal and the frequency of the transmitted signal, and this difference is proportional to the distance from the radar antenna to the surface of the measured medium. The larger the frequency difference represents the farther the material is away. The distance from the measured substance to the instrument flange can be calculated by formula (1).

Where D is the distance between the measuring reference surface and the measured medium, and c is the light (electromagnetic wave) in a vacuum
The propagation speed is ΔF, which is the frequency difference between the received signal and the transmitted signal, and R is the rate of change of the transmitted signal frequency with respect to time.
Then, according to the empty material level position set by the user, the material height can be calculated by formula (2). L=E-D (2)
Where E is the distance from the measurement reference surface to the user-set empty material level position, D is the distance from the measurement reference surface to the measured medium, and L is the height of the material.
