Function and Measurement System
Measuring Principle
The MGS series of guided wave radar level meters excel in 'top-down' measurement, leveraging the advanced Time of Flight principle. A high-frequency pulse signal is emitted towards the probe, traveling its length. Upon reaching the material's surface, the signal reflects back, retracing its path to the instrument. Through innovative equivalent sampling technology, the instrument converts the time lapse between pulse emission and reception into the distance from the instrument's reference point to the material surface, deftly calculating the level. This precise method is recognized as TDR Time Domain Reflectometry.

Import
The echo pulse signal journeys from the probe to the instrument's electronic unit, where the microprocessor meticulously analyzes it to identify the authentic level echo signal. This discernment, achieved through intelligent software, ensures accurate level measurement. The distance D is directly proportional to the pulse's travel time t: D = c * t / 2, where c represents the speed of light. Utilizing the known empty tank height E, the level L is calculated as L = E - D. Refer to the diagram on the right for the precise reference point of the empty tank height E.


Output
Tailored to field-specific conditions, the instrument is configured with parameters such as the empty tank height (zero point), full tank height (full scale), and application specifics. This setup enables the instrument to seamlessly adapt to various measurement scenarios. The output is configured in a 4~20mA range based on user-defined settings, with communication facilitated via the HART protocol.

· Usually, cable probes are used to measure solid particles, and rod probes are only suitable for measuring light solid particles with good fluidity in small ranges (about 4m);
· Rod or coaxial rod probes are usually used to measure small range of liquids. Cable probes are used to measure liquids with a range greater than 4m or in situations where rigid probes cannot be installed on the top space;
· The coaxial rod probe can measure the viscosity of liquids up to 500cst, the coaxial rod probe can measure liquefied gas, the nozzle and the internal structure of the material tank have no effect on the measurement;
· When used for measuring the material level of large bins, the cable probe should be equipped with a plastic sheath to maintain the seal and prevent the cable from breaking due to side pressure;
· Corrosive media should be selected for corrosion protection;
· When the measured medium is a very loose material, it can be classified as a class with low dielectric constant;
· The maximum range of the instrument will be reduced due to the influence of working conditions, such as: very loose surface material, adhesion caused by wet medium.

Whether dealing with water storage tanks, acid and alkali storage, or slurry tanks, this tool is tailored for precision in challenging environments.1) For Class A medium measurements, opt for the waveguide (20m) for superior accuracy and reliability.

· The MPS3700 Series Pulse Radar is engineered for excellence in solid level measurement within process containers with expansive ranges. Perfect for applications involving coke levels, slurry storage tanks, and solid particles, adapting to varying antenna sizes for optimal performance.



Measuring Condition: Assess your environment to ensure optimal measurement precision.
• Measurement Range Insight: Commences where the beam contacts the tank's bottom. Note for disc-bottom or conical tanks: levels below this point remain unmeasured, ensuring accurate upper range readings.
• For media with low dielectric constants (Class A and B), if the medium is at low levels (illustrated in figure C), visibility to the tank bottom occurs. This condition affects measurement precision, thus positioning the measurement zero point above C is advised for optimal accuracy.
• Theoretical Measurement Range: Extends to the antenna's end. Adjust for effects of corrosion and adhesion by maintaining a minimum distance A from the antenna's top, particularly crucial during condensation events.
Minimum Measurement Range B: Correlates with the selected antenna type. Refer to the accompanying table for precise specifications.
Tank Specifications: Diameter must exceed D and height should be a minimum of H, as detailed in the table below.
