Function and Measurement System
Measuring Principle
The MGS series of guided wave radar level meters are cutting-edge 'top-down' measuring instruments grounded in the precise Time of Flight principle. These meters emit advanced high-frequency pulse signals that travel seamlessly along the probe. Upon encountering the material surface, they reflect back, allowing the instrument to capture the echo. Utilizing unique equivalent sampling technology, the pulse's travel time is accurately transformed into the distance from the instrument's reference point to the material surface. This calculation reveals the level with remarkable precision, embodying the exceptional TDR Time Domain Reflectometry measurement method.

Import
The echo pulse signal is innovatively transmitted from the probe directly to the instrument's electronic unit, where a sophisticated microprocessor meticulously analyzes the received signal. This process discerns the true level echo signal, expertly executed by intelligent software. The measurement distance D is skillfully linked to the pulse travel time t: D=c * t / 2, with c as the speed of light. Utilizing the known empty tank height E, the level L is calculated as L =E-D. Refer to the diagram on the right for the empty tank height E reference point.


Output
Tailored to field conditions, this instrument allows precise setting of the empty tank height (zero point), full tank height (full scale), and application parameters, enabling automatic adaptation to current measurement scenarios. Users can set a corresponding output of 4~20mA according to the range settings, with seamless communication achieved through the HART protocol.

· Usually, cable probes are used to measure solid particles, and rod probes are only suitable for measuring light solid particles with good fluidity in small ranges (about 4m);
· Rod or coaxial rod probes are usually used to measure small range of liquids. Cable probes are used to measure liquids with a range greater than 4m or in situations where rigid probes cannot be installed on the top space;
· The coaxial rod probe can measure the viscosity of liquids up to 500cst, the coaxial rod probe can measure liquefied gas, the nozzle and the internal structure of the material tank have no effect on the measurement;
· When used for measuring the material level of large bins, the cable probe should be equipped with a plastic sheath to maintain the seal and prevent the cable from breaking due to side pressure;
· Corrosive media should be selected for corrosion protection;
· When the measured medium is a very loose material, it can be classified as a class with low dielectric constant;
· The maximum range of the instrument will be reduced due to the influence of working conditions, such as: very loose surface material, adhesion caused by wet medium.

Measuring Conditions: Key insights and parameters for optimal measurement performance.
• Measurement Range Specifications: Starting from where the beam contacts the tank bottom, note that measurements below this are not feasible in disc-bottom or conical-discharge tanks.
• For Low Dielectric Constant Media (Class A & B): When media is low (shown as figure C), the tank bottom is visible, reducing accuracy. Set the measurement zero point at position C, away from the tank bottom, for precise results.
• Theoretical Measurement Range: Extends to the antenna's tip. To mitigate corrosion and adhesion effects, ensure a gap (marked as A) between the range's end and the antenna top, especially when condensation is expected.
Minimum Measurement Range: B varies by antenna type, as detailed in the subsequent table, ensuring personalized adjustment for accurate measurements.
